The Purpose of RevivalBy Todd Bentley

The purpose of Revival!

The greater we understand how desperately we need to be revived & hunger for that Encounter the more grace we will receive to seek him!

We need to understand our need to Live Again!

Lets talk about the fruit of Revival! A true fruit of Revival is a desire to change, awakened hunger, and new passion for Jesus and his word!

Definition of Revival in its true sense!

1) Revival refers to a spiritual reawakening from a state of dormancy or stagnation in the life of a believer.

2) It is a extraordinary movement of the Holy Spirit producing extraordinary results.

3) Times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord." (Acts 3:19)

The greater we understand how desperately we need to be revived & hunger for that Encounter the more grace we will receive to seek him!

Revival begins with hunger (intense desire for him) the Holy Spirit always comes to the hungry.

An excerpt from a First Great Awakening revival meeting

This will make you Hungry!

"The power of God seemed to shake the whole assembly. Towards the close of the sermon, the cries of the distressed arose almost as loud as his voice. After the congregation was dismissed the solemnity increased, till the greater part of the multitude seemed engaged in the most solemn manner. No person seemed to wish to go home- hunger and sleep seemed to affect nobody- eternal things were the vast concern. Here awakening and converting work was to be found in every part of the multitude; and even some things strangely and wonderfully new to me.

3 Things Revival will do

This is why we need the fresh fire of revival!

1. Cause us to Rejoice in him.

(Ps 85 1-6 AMP) The fruit of Revival!!!

"Lord, You have at last been favorable and have dealt graciously with Your land of Canaan; You have brought back from Babylon the captives of Jacob. You have forgiven and taken away the iniquity of Your people, You have covered all their sin. Selah (pause, and calmly realize what that means!) You have withdrawn all Your wrath and indignation, You have turned away from the blazing anger which You had let loose. Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease forever. Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger and disfavor and spread it out to all generations? Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?"

Revival will always bring a renewed praise & worship.

We need to pray, "Revive us to rejoice in You!"

(Hab 3:2) "O Lord, I have heard the report of You and was afraid. O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make Yourself known! In wrath earnestly remember love, pity, and mercy."

2. Quicken us to call on your name!

(Ps 80:18 AMP)

"Then will we not depart from You; revive us (give us life) and we will call upon Your name. Revive us (quicken us) and we will call upon your name"

Without Grace we cannot truly seek him. Revival will stir our hearts to seek him!

3. We cannot come out of bondage without revival!

(Ezra 9:8-9) "And now, for a brief moment, grace has been shown us by the Lord our God, Who has left us a remnant to escape and has given us a secure hold in His holy place, that our God may brighten our eyes and give us a little reviving in our bondage. For we are bondmen; yet our God has not forsaken us in our bondage, but has extended mercy and steadfast love to us before the kings of Persia, to give us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us a wall [of protection] in Judah and Jerusalem." Now, O our God...
